Students turn sound artists at Carlton Keighley

Hear some of the fantastic sound art pieces made by Carlton Keighley students as part of Bradford Digital Creatives.

Earlier this year, pioneering artist and sound engineer Caro C led an inspiring audio storytelling workshop at Carlton Keighley in Bradford as part of the Bradford Digital Creatives project—an initiative empowering young people to explore digital artforms and share their own stories in new ways.

In the session, entitled ‘Learn How to Make Sound Art, Sound Collage, and Audio Storytelling’, students experimented with recording their voices and sounds made with a range of props—including kitchen utensils and other everyday items—and transforming them into unique, expressive pieces of audio art.

Enrichment and Wider Curriculum Leader at Carlton Keighley, Isobel Perrings, reflected on the impact of the workshop:

“The session with Caro was an amazing opportunity for our young people. It provided them with an incredible exploration of sound and creativity—students not only learned about the technical aspects of audio and music production but also discovered how to make unique sounds using everyday items as equipment. It was a truly inspiring experience for all involved.”

The artwork created by the students taking part in Bradford Digital Creatives will be showcased this summer in a celebration of Bradford stories and digital art. Keep an eye on our website for further details.

If you can’t wait until then, we’ve got an opportunity for you to hear some of the inspiring soundscapes the students created at Carlton Keighley—click below to listen.
