Last Sunday, Hebden Bridge Picture House (a Bradford International Film Festival satellite venue) had something to celebrate; ownership of the cinema was being transferred from Calderdale MBC to Hebden Royd Town Council.
How fortuitous then, that the festival would be screening a Ray Winstone retrospective in honour of our special guest, because Fanny & Elvis, a film in which he starred fourteen years ago, was filmed just up the road in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge.
What looks like the whole of Hebden came out in the rain to welcome the film’s director, Kay Mellor, who sat in conversation with Bill Lawrence (Executive Director of Reel Solutions, and former Head of Film at this museum). The audience—who were invited to dress up for the occasion—were also treated to an introduction by Ray Winstone on the big screen. Ooh, and free cake and popcorn. That always goes down well.
