Who’s your ‘great photographer’?

As we prepare to open our new exhibition The Lives of Great Photographers, we have asked museum staff and visitors the question: who do you think is a great photographer—and why?

We will soon be opening a brand new exhibition drawn from our photography collection: The Lives of Great Photographers (15 April – 4 September 2011).

Our collection contains thousands of great works by great photographers—not all of which are represented in the exhibition. When you visit, we want you to tell us where we went wrong.

We have been asking staff and visitors: who would you have included in this exhibition? Who is your favourite photographer? They can be still living, still working, man or woman, any nationality, any era of history. Tell us why you love their work.

See some of the responses so far below—you can find more on our Flickr account.
